Proceed with the following remedies.

  1. For Windows 8 and above users, use Compatibility mode of Windows XP (any version) to run FAR 23 LOADS.
  2. The permission setting of the said ocx is the cause of the error message. Locate the ocx file in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (or C:\Windows\System32 for a 32-bit computer) and modify the Users group such that the group has permission to Read, Read & execute.
  3. If necessary, download comdlg32.ocx and tabctl32.ocx files. Save the ocx files and copy them to C:\Windows\System. If you prefer to download from Microsoft, click here. With an elevated command prompt, type
    ..\syswow64\regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx
     (..\system32\regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx for 32-bit computer) and/or
    ..\syswow64\regsvr32 tabctl32.ocx (..\system32\regsvr32 tabctl32.ocx for 32-bit computer)
A message should pop up and state DllRegisterServer in ocx succeeded
