First Flight of the NASA P3 for Operation Ice Bridge
![]() |
Congratulations to CReSIS for the first flight of the NASA P3 for Operation Ice Bridge on April 28, 2010. A large antenna array was developed to sound and image polar ice sheets by a NASA, University and industry partnership (WFF, University of Kansas and DARcorporation). The team members designed, simulated, fabricated, installed and flight tested the system in a 3 month period. The mission will be flown May 3-28, 2010. DARcorporation engineers actively participated in the design using CAD, aerodynamic trade studies using CFD and static and dynamic structural trade studies using FEA. DAR personnel constructed the 10 pylons that hold the radar installation, constructed the forward bomb bay internal structure and helped with installation at Wallops. |
