J2 Universal Tool-Kit

Step I: Optimizing Design: The J2 Universal Tool-Kit enables multiple configurations to be assessed simultaneously, with the results compared to a core design. This allows the design team to direct their efforts to the points at which the aircraft is most sensitive to change and efficiently develop the optimum configuration. Step II: Designing the Details: During detailed design, it is necessary to investigate handling characteristics in greater detail throughout the entire flight envelope. The J2 Universal tool-Kit's integrated configuration control enables all analyzes to be linked to a design and highlights the analyzes that have and have not been performed. Whole flight envelopes can be analyzed with a single mouse click and revisions can be quickly reanalyzed to cover all possibilities and keep the results up-to-date. The data centric approach means that multiple team members can investigate different aspects of the aircraft without duplicating work and have access to the latest version.

Step III: Flying the Design: The J2 Universal Tool-Kit enables the whole flight test program to be flown, with results displayed in a 3-D virtual environment, so test pilots know what to expect before getting into the cockpit. Recorded data from the flight trials can then be fed back into the system for further analysis by the flight test engineers and played back in 3-D, to ensure a total understanding of the aircraft's behavior.


J2 Framework provides access to a centralized database, cutting-edge configuration control and data management for all steps in the design process. The resulting data centric process enables individuals and teams to track all changes made to designs, and ensure that all analysis is consistent with the latest versions.

J2 Framework handles all the configuration control and plug-in management and provides a data centric approach to aircraft design and analysis. J2 Framework allows users to perform different tasks at varying stages of the design process and work together to optimize an aircraft model. This minimizes the amount of reworking and ensures that the data is consistent. All users will need J2 Framework, then add the optional J2 Universal Plug Ins (listed below).

J2 Universal Plug Ins:

Mix and match additional design and analysis capabilities using separate plug ins to take control of a bespoke package that perfectly fits your requirements. This way, you get the right functionality and maximize the return on your investment.

J2 Builder is an easy-to-use graphical interface that rapidly develops aircraft models and builds multiple variants for comparison. Using your key specifications as its starting point, aerodynamics, component positions and weights, J2 Builder quickly constructs a reliable aircraft model ready for assessment. Tolerances and many other variables can be applied to the same data model for further investigations. This unique and easy-to-use interface enables users to construct sophisticated aircraft data models rapidly and efficiently, no matter whether the model itself is simple or highly complex.


J2 Freedom provides flight dynamics simulation of aircraft data models, allowing you to evaluate the complete flight envelope and enables users to create trim and response scenarios and use these models together with previously created aircraft to perform static and dynamic analyzes. When static and dynamic analysis takes place early in the development lifecycle, potential problems can be discovered quickly, before valuable time and money has been wasted on an inefficient or faulty concept. Universal flight dynamic modeling capabilities come as standard for designers using J2 Freedom so an unlimited number of flights and maneuvers can therefore be predicted and evaluated.


J2 Visualize provides instant understanding and evaluation of aircraft behavior through data visualization and graphic displays. J2 Visualize enables designers to create monitors, graphs and traces with which to view the data either as an analysis is underway or as a post processing tool. The system enables users rapidly to establish optimum configurations by plotting graphs from the evaluated data and by viewing and monitoring individual analyzes as they happen. The plots and data can then be easily transferred into other applications for reporting purposes.


J2 Virtual allows the user to view any results in a virtual 3-D real-world, to understand what actually happens during unexplained/complex maneuvers. You will see your aircraft in flight! This plug-in provides a unique 3-D viewing capability, which shows the aircraft and its characteristics during any maneuvers and gives the user a clear understanding of how the aircraft will respond to each challenge and allows flight test data to be viewed.



J2 Active enables users to integrate easily constructed configuration managed aircraft models into existing MATLAB/Simulink simulations. J2 Active integrates the power of the J2 Universal Tool-Kit into your current design capabilities and establishes an effective interface with both MATLAB® and Simulink® software models. As a result, you can link configurations managed, high fidelity aircraft models seamlessly into any Simulink® model or efficiently embed libraries straight into any software package.



J2 Elements utilizes integrated strip theory to calculate total aerodynamic coefficients and derivatives automatically. This advanced plug-in provides rapid analysis and the ability to investigate different configurations, wing planforms and airfoil characteristics – all without the need to calculate complex derivatives and coefficients.
